Change Management Training - 1 Day

Change management training courses in Manchester, Birmingham, Gloucester, Milton Keynes, Swindon, Oxford, London, Nottingham, West Midlands, Edinburgh – Scotland

In house development training as follows:

In house course: from £1,400 +VAT per day for up to fifteen delegates

Change management training is about accepting the fact that we live in a world that never stands still:
It is in a permanent state of change.

But most people don’t like change. It seems easier to stay the same.
Change seems too threatening and difficult.

Staying the same seems easier and more certain.

  • So many people say “Why change? Better the devil you know!”
  • Others say “Why change? If it isn’t broke don’t fix it”

That sounds good: but in an ever- changing environment, what happens to those that stay the same for too long?
Answer: They go extinct.

In order to “live long and prosper”, we should equip ourselves with the ability to accept and implement change
Maybe we should even be willing to initiate change.

The course content is as follows:

The general attitude to change

Note the following facts about people’s attitudes towards change:

  1. Many people don’t like change because:
  2. Many people don’t like the feeling of uncertainty
  3. Change always implies an element of  uncertainty

All improvement implies “making a change”

But many people don’t like making a change! (They say: “Better the devil you know!”)

Strive to ensure that your plan for change is not seen as a threat

Strive to present the change as an evolutionary process: i.e. making progress towards a goal
- NOT as “A bitter pill we have to swallow”

How to manage the change

Make progress by means of a five step plan.
All adaptive change management can be described by a simple five step process:
The Success Formula

The Success Formula

  1. State your purpose (first to survive, then flourish, and then grow!)
  2. Formulate your most intelligent plan, in writing
  3. Take decisive action, based on the plan
  4. Find out where the plan IS working, and where it isn’t: Gather and evaluate the feedback, both the positive and the negative.
  5. Make progress by continually changing, adapting.

Recognise that the success formula is a continuous process

Progress is made by evolutionary steps towards a stated goal.

Recognise the opposite formula: the five part Failure formula

If you reverse the success formula you have a failure formula

  1. Drifting with no goals : or too many simultaneous goals
  2. No written plan- make it up as you go along, with no plan: wing it
  3. Procrastination – keep putting it off until tomorrow.
  4. Become disheartened and defeated  in the face of setbacks and disappointments
  5. Stand still.  Clinging to the past. Stubbornly remaining static when everything else is changing around you.

Set the SMART goal

  1. Specifics: Define the goal numerically and define each term
  2. Measure the feedback.
  3. Achievable: name the skills
  4. Realistic: identify the constraints
  5. Time deadline: Set a deadline

Build the practical plan of action

  1. How to “Map out the plan”.
  2.  Use a mind map template to identify the steps

Positive mental attitude training and how it affects tangible results

  1. What does it mean to have a positive attitude?
A positive attitude based on this belief:  “We have the right to feel confident because our collective brain is capable of constructing a future that is better than either the present or the past.”
  2. Positive mental attitude. How to get one!
  3.  Manage the  stress-energy levels
  4. Manage the mood. (Do not allow the language to be become destructive)

If the Success Formula is so simple: how come everyone doesn’t do it?

Although the formula is simple; it is not easy, because most people don’t like:

  1. Committing to goals ( for fear of not achieving  them)
  2. Criticism ( see part 4 of the success formula)
  3. Change (see part 5 of the success formula0

Appreciate the true value of temporary failure

  1. Understand the role of critical feedback and failure in success
  2. Finish this phrase:
“We no longer see setbacks and problems as permanent failure, but rather as……………….”

Final summary

How will this training help you to get the best from yourself and others?

The training method follows this general pattern:

  1. The trainer gives a clear explanation of the point in question.
  2. The trainer then demonstrates the principle and gives specific examples.
  3. Then, the delegates practice by doing an exercise with each other.
  4. The delegates practice by doing exercise with the trainer.
  5. All points are supported with full written notes to take away.
  6. Delegates are asked to write down an associated action, for each point made.
  7. (At the end of the day, we have about twenty such actions, from which the delegates choose six which are the most personally meaningful).

Note: we do not believe in placing people in any situation of embarrassment by demanding that they 'perform' in front of the whole group. So you can relax: come on this course and be at ease; ready to learn new skills!
