Accelerated learning and teaching training

How to remember much more of what you hear, read and see

Do the following things happen to you?

1. You read a page of a book, then realise that NONE of it stayed in your memory? i.e. You can’t remember any of what you just read. If someone was to test you, on the content of that page, then you would score 0/10

2. Or you come out of a sales meeting, and then can’t even remember the guy’s name?

3. Or you attend the briefing about the new job that has just come in, and when you come out of the meeting, you can barely remember anything of use: and your written notes don't help.

4. You make a promise to do something, and you then completely forget to do it.

5. You can’t remember what you did Tuesday, three weeks ago.

If you recognise these situations, then you are not alone:

For that sad truth is this: much of what you learn, metaphorically, goes in one ear and straight out of the other!

Most people forget too much.

• They forget names
• They forget important information
• They forget what they learned in the training
• They forget to do important things that they promised they would do

Do you forget too much?

Why is that?

Answer

You have never taken the time to train your memory.

Hardly ANYONE trains their memory.

Most people run their lives relying on an untrained memory: most people don't even know the memory can be trained.

But your memory can be trained

You can learn to remember more, more efficiently!

HOW?

By training.

There is a body of knowledge that was developed in ancient Greece, which if you knew it and practiced it, would improve your recall by over 500 %

In order to tap into your true memory power you would need to do the following

1. Decide to improve your memory
2. Learn the techniques
3. Practice the techniques in situations where it doesn’t matter if you mess up
4. Keep practicing

You would keep practicing until you can memorise anything

You could memorise all the main points on every page of a 100 page document, by associating the information to the page number.

You could memorise all the key elements of any meeting.

You could memorise all the points of your presentation, and make your presentation without referring to notes.

You could Memorise all the facts and figures you need.

You could Memorise definitions, and quotes, that will improve your communication skills and credibility.

How is all this done?
The skills of memory boil down to the following:

• Change every fact that you want to remember into a visual image or "ICON"
• Associate the ICON to some form of logical mental structure
• Link the icon to the structure with ACTION
• Review and rehearse the material five times so that it sticks

Examples
If you want to remember that you parked your car in bay 12, then imagine that you park your car and then throw a dozen eggs over the windscreen.

If you want to remember that in fractions the numerator is the top of the fraction and the denominator is the bottom of the fraction: make a rule in your mind that says.

"Numerator NORTH and / Denominator DOWN"

If you need to remember that her name is Sue Smith, picture Sue dressed as a Sioux Indian, (war paint and feathers), and carrying a big heavy Smithies’ hammer in one hand and a horse shoe in the other.

Sioux Smithy

If you need to remember Sue Smith is the operations manager, picture her dressed and a Sioux Indian, doing a surgical operation with her smithies hammer, on a poor dying patient.

If you want to remember that the three biggest oceans in order are:
1 Pacific,
2 Atlantic and
3 Indian,

Then picture

A Pakistani man giving an Atlas to an Indian woman

1. Pakistani = Pacific Ocean

2. Atlas = Atlantic ocean

3. Indian = Indian ocean

Quick test

Without looking back:

• In what bay did you park your car (eggs?)

• Is the denominator on the top or bottom of a fraction?

• What job does sue smith have?

• What is the second biggest ocean?

• What is the name given to the top of a fraction?

• Which ocean is the third biggest in the world?

Memory techniques are all about using your imagination

There are many techniques you can learn

The techniques have the following names:

• Chaining
• Pegging
• Number rhyme
• Number shape
• Journey method
• Master system
• Story board
• Person action object (POA)

You could learn by owning your very own accelerated learning download or DVD.
