Work-life balance is the harmonious blending of the professional and non-professional aspects of life that results in higher professional productivity, better health and more sustainable living habits.

  • The error of chasing standard of living at the expense of quality of life.
  • Quality of life is the primary goal and standard of living is a part of it.

Quality of life requires BALANCE of these six factors

  • Mental Balance (positive mental attitude)
  • Physical Balance (health)
  • Balanced and Harmonious human relationships
  • Freedom from fear and worry
  • Balance between activity and rest.

What is it?
Stress is a mental and or physical reaction to a real or perceived event. It may be external (heat, sunlight work) or internal (fear, worry, irritation).

Two fundamental types

  • Objective: Physical/Heat/Cold/Noise/Long hours.
  • Subjective: Irritations/Frustrations/Annoyance/Dislikes/Anger

  • Manage the Intensity duration and frequency of stressors
  • The “Optimum zone”
How to manage subjective, internal stress
  1. Your own thoughts can be the cause of stress
  2. Your reactions are changeable by you
  3. Take charge

  1. Manage the intensity and frequency of objective stressors
  2. Notice and control the content of your own mind
  3. Take control of your own emotional reactions
  4. Take time to relax your brain!

Work life balance and stress management summary and action plan

The training method follows this general pattern:

  1. The trainer gives a clear explanation of the point in question.
  2. The trainer then demonstrates the principle and gives specific examples.
  3. Then, the delegates practice by doing an exercise with each other.
  4. The delegates practice by doing exercise with the trainer.
  5. All points are supported with full written notes to take away.
  6. Delegates are asked to write down an associated action, for each point made.
  7. (At the end of the day, we have about twenty such actions, from which the delegates choose six which are the most personally meaningful).

Note: we do not believe in placing people in any situation of embarrassment by demanding that they 'perform' in front of the whole group. So you can relax: come on this course and be at ease; ready to learn new skills!
